What that means in practice

The tours listed here are sold through Viator and GetYourGuide. When you follow a link from one of these pages and go on to book, the platform pays us a share of its own commission. You pay the same fare either way; the price on the booking page is the operator's price, not a marked-up one.

What we are not

We are not a tour operator. We do not run any of these tours, cruises or day trips, employ any of these guides or hold your booking. Your contract is with the operator, through the platform.

We have no connection with Basel Tourismus, the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Fasnachts-Comité, the Swiss Federal Railways, Basler Personenschifffahrt or any tour, cruise or transport operator.

How tours get listed

Operators cannot pay for placement, position or a badge. A badge on a card is a measured claim: Top rated only on a tour rated 4.9 or higher, Best seller only on the listing with the most reviews, Best value only on the cheapest. The bike tour carries Top rated, the Swiss Travel Pass carries Best seller, and the 75-minute Rhine cruise carries Best value. A platform's own badge, such as a certification, is not shown.

The featured tours at the top of the homepage are three different kinds of day from three different starts: the city's own Old Town walk from the Tinguely Fountain, a guided rail day to Lucerne and Interlaken from Basel SBB, and the bike tour from St. Johanns-Tor. One operator sells two walks here, a short one and a custom private one, and they are never shown together as the three picks.

Prices, ratings and how current they are

Prices, star ratings and review counts belong to the operators and were taken from their own listings on 21 September 2026. They move, and the figure at checkout is the one that counts. Every tour fare is quoted in US dollars because that is the currency the listings were captured in; nothing is converted at an exchange rate. Museum prices are in Swiss francs, as the museum publishes them. Every fare here is per person except two: the private walk with a professional guide, priced per group of up to 15, and the airport transfer, priced per car for up to three. Both are the listings' own statements.

The facts about the BaselCard, the ferries, the Minster and the tourist office are Basel Tourismus' own, read from its pages. The Kunstmuseum's hours, prices and closures are the museum's. The Fasnacht date is the Fasnachts-Comité's. The climate figures are the World Meteorological Organization's 1991-2020 normals for the Basel/Binningen station. Where a detail comes from a listing, such as a meeting point, a group size, an age limit or what the fare includes, it belongs to that tour.

What we deliberately do not publish

The Minster's opening hours and any tower fee. They change with the season and the weekday, and the only copy we could read was a year old.
The Rhine ferry fares. We found no current official figure, so we print none.
The Christmas market dates for 2026 and the Art Basel dates for 2027. Neither was published in a form we could verify.
The hour the Morgestraich starts. The committee gives the date; we say "before dawn" rather than print an hour no official page confirms.
How much of the Kunstmuseum's main building is under renovation. The museum mentions a renovation; we do not state a closure it has not announced to us.
Public transport fares, and Swiss Travel Pass prices beyond the listing's own. Both change, and the BaselCard makes the first moot for overnight guests.
A trip to the Jungfraujoch. One reviewer of the Jungfrau day writes about the "Top of Europe"; the listing climbs to Kleine Scheidegg, and no fare here goes up to the Jungfraujoch.

Where the listings disagree with themselves

The Swiss Travel Pass listing says free cancellation up to 24 hours in one place and 48 hours in its terms, so every card for it says both and claims neither. Two van days state a maximum of 8 travelers and, elsewhere, 20; we print 8. A few listings use a web address that names a different product; we follow the product's own title and inclusions.
